Srebrenica. Marš Mira

Every July, thousands walk the roughly 100 kilometres from Nezuk to the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Centre: the route of the 1995 Death March in reverse, when Bosniak men and boys tried to escape through the forests after the fall of the UN safe area. More than 8,000 were killed in the genocide. In 2016 I documented the march, travelling with Bauern helfen Bauern, a Salzburg aid organisation that since 1992 has built more than 1,000 wooden houses for war victims and refugees, mainly in the former Yugoslavia. Along the route, it provided the marchers with food and water. The march ends on the eve of 11 July, when newly identified victims are laid to rest.
